Three young men caught up in Civil War leave home and family to fight for what they believe is right, only to discover war is not what they envisioned. A concise and unique retelling of the American Civil War on a very personal level

Ms. Burkett certainly has an expert way with words, compelling us to care deeply about her characters right off the bat. And these are characters we should care about. They were real people.
The book had me laughing, crying, angry, and scared for them. At some points all at the same time! I particularly loved the author's "Whisperings" between some of the chapters, giving us some insight into the workings of this wonderful novel and her personal encounters with Charlie, Specks, Jesse, Peter, and Emmie.
If you want a concise and unique retelling of the American Civil War on a very personal level, you will love this book.
